Catarina Riccabona’s fawn and white alpaca throw is a unique one-off piece hand-woven using primarily undyed alpaca wool as well as some recycled linen. The fabric is made using a block design, which creates a geometric pattern out of different colour fields. The little tufts that are visible are made from 'waste' yarns: cut-off yarns from previous projects that are knotted together by hand. As these little knots appear randomly on the surface of the fabric during the weaving process, Catarina deliberately leaves them visible as a testimony to the hand-made nature of the process. Simultaneously these knots give the fabric an interesting texture, and a playful look, which is reminiscent of certain African textiles.
