The ‘Butter Bench’ is part of the ‘Windows of Bo Bardi’ series by Destroyers/Builders made from wood and wood dust composite. The subtle light yellow colour of the coating is reminiscent of bones, horn, or beeswax. The series is inspired by the beautiful and imposing SESC Pompéia Factory in São Paulo by the brutalist architect Lina Bo Bardi, which converted an oil-barrel factory into a public cultural centre. This series of sculptural furniture is in intimate dialogue with this building: the bench is moulded into the shape created by the negative space between the window openings. With its rounded forms, the ‘Windows of Bo Bardi Butter Bench’ incorporates natural shapes into an everyday object in order to find balance between the fluidity and the mechanical qualities of our urban environment. The studio’s founder, Linde Freya Tangelder’s work has been exhibited widely: including at Milan Design Week, London Design Festival and many more.
