Cup One and Two

The beautiful ceramic cups by Maria Tyakina are now available in a new colours: a rich dark brown and a fresh white. A cup is an emblematic ceramic form, in use since before recorded history. Maria Tyakina’s ‘Cup One and Two’ draw inspiration from a gesture old as mankind: the joining together of hands to form a vessel with which to carry water to the mouth. This gesture is translated in the forms of the cups, whose shapes are designed to harmonise with the curves of the human hand. Each dimple fits seamlessly with the hand and fingertips and a curved lip allows liquid to flow smoothly. The elegant curves lend the vessels not only a sculptural character but also serve a functional purpose: they are shaped to fit perfectly into one’s hand and mouth. The shape of the cups allows them to fit together creating a third form, resembling a vase.
