Locking Table (Exclusive)

Locking Table is a beautiful wooden side table transcending the categories of furniture and sculpture made exclusively for Metamorphoses. This object is created by the product designer and interior architect Maria Tyakina from wooden volumes pressed, locked, and pushed into each other: two thinner flattened forms lock a third base element between them, the pressure warping their proportions. This act of force creates a self-supporting structure with its own rules, narrative, gesture, and negative spaces. The piece is evocative and expressive, with an almost humanoid character. The "hard" and "soft" aspects are actively interacting: as the two top pieces are moulded around the centre of the base in an almost bodily way. The table is made from locally sourced cherry wood, chosen for its gentle and unique character, its rich warm colour, and the perfect scale of the grain and ring drawing for the piece.
