Belgian designer Emma Terweduwe builds upon her home nation’s rich lineage of textile manufacturing, specialising in jacquard weaving for contexts of both fashion and interior design. Her pieces are luxurious and expressive, combining natural and durable materials, strong graphic design, and a unique process of felting woven fabrics. By making textiles that are meant to stimulate our sense of touch, Terweduwe’s tactile works offer a critique of our fast-paced and superficial society, which increasingly values appearance over substance.
In two new plaid blankets – woven in wool, mohair and cotton – Terweduwe combines bold graphic forms with age-old artisanal craftsmanship. Hand-finished with a crochet technique, the pieces were produced in collaboration with B&T Textile, a high-end local weaving company working with traditional manufacturing processes. In two distinct colourways – this one in a blend of bright blue, green and beige hues – each piece’s two sides show different designs, allowing them to be redisplayed at their owners' discretion.
