Catherine Dix’s ceramic bottles are a contemporary twist on the traditional forms, shapes and functions of pottery. The warm earthy tones and rough texture are evocative of ancient ceramics, while the forms themselves are influenced by the architecture and shapes of modernity. Her creative vision is guided by the Yanagi philosophical pillar of ‘Mingei’, or the belief that beauty is to be found in functional everyday crafts, as opposed to high art objects. This is reflected in these objects which allow the simplicity and the raw and archaic spirit of the clay to be the dominant feature. Catherine’s bottles are transmuted from ordinary functional forms into less practical, sculptural forms: blurring the line between art and craft.

Catherine made four unique pieces for Metamorphoses which can be wonderfully combined. Just like Cocotte 03, Cocotte 04 is small ceramic bottle with a crème brûlée  glaze.
