Handwoven wall piece

This beautiful handspun charcoal wall piece was created by Catarina Riccabona exclusively for Metamorphoses. The unique piece is handwoven from linen, wool, cotton and alpaca yarns using a block design technique. Catarina’s creative process is spontaneous and intuitive, allowing the materials to guide the design throughout the handweaving process. Each different block in the design represents a different weave structure. As the fabric is made from cut-off yarns knotted together, little tufts appear randomly on the surface and give the weave a slightly scruffy look and feel. Catarina deliberately leaves these ends visible as a testimony to the hand-made nature of the process. A designer and loom weaver based in South East London, Catarina works with natural sustainable materials to produce intricate textile art.
